WAIKA.TO HUNT CLUB RACES. As usual, the Waikato Hunt Clul) races wore brought off under most unfavourable circumstances, as far as the weather was concerned. Heavy rain fell at intervals all days, but nevertheless, there was an excellent attendance, and the spectators included a large number of ladies. The course was naturally in a very heavy condition, and the light weights had a really good time. There was no totalizator on the ground, but a fair sprink'ing of the 2 to 1 bar one crowd from Auckland, appeared to do good business. The racing opened with the Handicip Hurdles, for which The Monk was made a red hot favourite. Libeller, Joker, Neck or-Nothing and Duchess dropped out, leaving Miss Kate and Sunbeam to light it out with the favourite. Harmon kept The Monk well iu hand and won easily by three or four lengths. The Hack Hurdles attracted a field of three, and Mr Ross' Tip immediately took the premier position ill the betting. Tip cut out the running and looked all over a winner until the last half-mile wis reached, when Glenlock assumed the lead, and coming away in great style won by a couple of lengths from Kaiser. The Steeplechase proved a regular Jtnsco. Five horses started, and the light-weight Cannon led the field round the first time by a couple of hundred yards. Contrary to all expectations, he sustained his lead throughout the race and won by about 100 yards. Bellman, who -was the favourite, came very strongly in the last half-mile, but collapsed at the second jump from home, leaving Cannon to win as he liked. A big fight ensued for second place, Magpie appropriating it by a length The Ladies' Bracelet was the softest thing in the world for The Monk, who thus won the double. .St. Edith was the fancy for the Hack Race, and she undoubtedly demonstrated the difference between the hack and the thoroughbred, and carrying tip weight she simply romped home. The meeting closed with the Tally ho Steeples, for which six faced the starter. Cannon was allotted the heavy impost of l'ist 71b, and pursuing the same tactics as in his former race, he went to the front and led till a quarter of a mile from home, where he fell, and Miss Kate jumping into the lead won as she liked by hall a do/en lengths.
