FANCY DRESS BALL AT PIRONGIA
TIIE fancy dress ball under the auspices of the Waipa Amateur Athletic Club, which took place here on I'Mday evening last, was a most successful one. Not for many years were su many gathered together in the old hall and enjoyed themselves so tlmrousjhly, thanks lo the ladies'committee and the secretary, Mr G. Berry. It was estimated that nearly two hundred persons wire present, the ladies being ill the majority, but still there was id lack of partners. Some of the dresses were not only very handsome, but the wearers did their best to sustain their various characters, many of them being very humourous and causing noend of fun. To give a fair and correct account or description of all those in fancy costume is not in my power, as many were unknown to your correspondent, as alsa many in evening dress. Among those in fancy costumes were : Miss M. Hodtrson, Night; Miss Eva Wills, Winter"; Mrs J. M. Singleton, Cinderella ; ML-s Auhin, Rioboinl and Laces ; Miss 1). Ilowileu, Dutch Peasant ; MUs A. The gentlemen were also got up in capital style, the most amusing"being tho Maori Rings lira Ncha, Mr E. H. Auhin, and his wahinc, Mr G. Miles. This pair caused no end of laughter, the Infer especially could not be identified, the get-up was so well done, and tin acting equally good. Mr (■• llowden, Highlander; Mr Walter Hell, Rue Jacket ; Mr Sing, Footballer, Mr A. Gresham. Folly ; Mr Hob Kay, Stockman ; Mr F. Bowdea, Cricketer (United e ilours) ; Mr Tom Steele, Mexican Rancher.) ; Mr T. Bainbridifc, Tea Pianter ; Mr Norm,in Macdomi'ld, Mount, d It lies; and Mi' C. Seceoinbe (violin) The refreshments pro\ ided by the lady friends of the Club were excellent and plentiful, and wire thoroughly enjoyed. All ou having expressed themselves as having spent an enjoyable time, and hoped another Mich re-union would take p'ace at an eirly date.
