CABLE SUMMARY.
Several thousand workmen have been locked out at Burnley. Twentyone thousand are idle at<sldham. The Employers' Federation declare that by Christinas the strike will have cost the Amalgamated Engineers' Socioty £400,000. Lord Roberts, Commander of the Forces in Ireland, has been made a Knight of the Most Illustrious Order of St. Patrick. The funeral of the late Sir William Jervois was attended by a number of representative colonials. A collision occurred in the English Channel between the cruiser Phcethon and the torpedo - boat destroyer Thrasher, belonging to the British Squadron. The Thrasher was badly damaged, and one of her crew lost his life. The £75,000 worth of shares offered to the public in the Puriri Gold Estates Company of Hauraki have been allotted.
