TREATY OF PEACE.
BRITAIN'S DEMMDS. Constantinople, August 20. THE British Government is firmly insisting on the evacuation of Thessaly by Turkey arid the withdrawal of the Turkish troops beyond the line formed by the Peneius Eiver, this retirement to include the evacuation of Larissa and Volo. Lord Salisbury demands that the evacuation is to take place immediately the treaty of peace is signed, and prior to any payment of the war indemnity. The attitude of Great Britain has produced a deadlock in the negotiations for a peace settlement between Turkey and Greece. The Imperial Ottoman Bank of Constantinople is willing to supply Greece with the first million of the indemnity loan. Berlin, August 21.
Berlin, and also Vienna newspapers, are publishing very bitter comments on the action of Britain in regard to the peace proposals between Turkey and Grescc They declare that Lord Salisbury is seeking a pretext to destroy the concert of the Powers.
