When the telephone first came out, a certain KirksttU washerwoman, who was a deal sharper husband, made a bet with him could talk with him a mile away. Accordingly she sent him to a call-otKce at Morccambe. After they had been talking for some time a storm visited the neighbourhood, and the lightning, striking the wire, knocked the unfortuuate husband down. Pickiug himself up, he exclaimed : "That's our Betty, every inch of her 1"
