REDUCTION OF RAIL FREIGHTS.
(BY TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT). Wellington, Last Night. The Minister for Railways has decided to make a reduction in *he freights on certain articles from October Ist The reductions on lime, used fur fertilisation, firewood, post and rails, house blocks, chaff, hay, straw, mangolds, beetroot, carrots, turnips, scrap iron, and certain other articles will begin at 31 miles and gradually increase up to SO, at which distance the rate be 4s 2d per truck less. Frozen meat freights will be reduced from class Cto D. Port rates between the breakwater and New Plymouth will be reduced from 3s Gd to 3s per ton, aud Christchurch 5s to 4s Gd a ton.
