EXECUTION OF SHEEHAN.
(B\ TELEOR.Vr-H. —OWN CORRESPONDENT). Ciiristchurch, Last Night. William Siieehan, the murderer of Agues Laycook, at Aniberley, was executed at Lyttcltcn Gaol this moiling. Tl c arrangements were carried out without a hitch, and death was instantaneous.
The murderer was very calm anil exhibited little or no emotion fiom the time lie errcrged from his eel! till he stood on the gallows. Father Curaniings and the nuns were very attentive to the condemned man, who admitted that he had been justly sentenced for bis crime and was quite resigned to his fate.
Press representatives were not to be admitted, but several J.P.s were present. Trouble was anticipated in hanging Sbccban through the large goitre on his neck, and special appliance was provided. This was the fourth case of execution in Lyttelton. The others were Swale in Br'bS, Ccdiuo in 1871, and Mercer in 1873. The gallows used was that which did duty for Bosher in Wellington.
