MAMAKU.
The Gale. —The gale on Thursday and Friday last was followed by the heaviest downpour of rain yet experienced tilts winter ; in fact, the weather for the past two months has been nothing but rain, frost ami snow alternately. Railway Matteks. The railway authorities evidently recognising the possibilities of this district have enlarged the station yard, and are also erecting cattle pens that were formerly in use at Lichfield. A large amount of timber and firewood goes away by train every day, but residents still complain of the insufficiency of rolling stock placed at their disposal. Acoilext.—A most singular accident occurred at Messrs Kusabs Bros.' sawmills on Friday, the 10th inst. A circular saw whilst cutting into a veryhard piece of rimu heart suddenly flew to pieces. Fortunately no one was hurt, although the benclunen had a narrow escape. Road Contract.—The road contract still hangs tire, although tenders closed a fortnight ago. Nothing so far has elapsed as to wlicn the work will start. — (Own Correspondent).
