THE MILK QUESTION.
The following is a copy of the letter received in August last by Mr Joseph Gane, which will remove all doubts at present existing upon the question of the bonus promised by Messrs Reynolds and Co., conditional upon an increased supply of 25 per cent. The letter, which is dated 20th August, 1896, was written by Mr Farley on behalf of Mc-srs Reynolds and Co., and has been forwarded to Mr Spragg:— _ " Mr Joseph Gane, chairman milk suppliers' mcctine. —Re the price of milk for the season 1896-97 : Tn continuation of the conversation you have had with Mr Richard Reynolds, I bee to submit the following for the suppliers' approval: That in the event ot the published schedule of prices not averaging 2jd per gallon for B*6 milk for the eicht months from the Ist September to the 30th April next, we hereby agree to make good any dtticiency at the end of the season to any creamery that supplies not less than an aggregate quantity of 25 per cent, more milk than was supplied during the same period for the preceding season (1095-96), providing that anyone being entitled to participate must start supplying on the day the creamery is opened and continue to do so regularly throughout the seasou. The milk supplied by those after the opening day to be aided to the aggregate for the benefit of all who started promptly." We understand that in some instances the bonus means as much as from £5 to £6 to some of the suppliers.
