MAMAKU V. VAOTU. The above teams tried conclusions at Putaruru on Saturday, the 10th inst., resulting in a win for Mamaku by 14 points ttrs. Wuotu put a very strong team into the field, and they played a hard, dashing game throughout, whilst the Mamaku boys confined themselves to more scientific play, and outclassed their opponents in every department of the game. The play during the first spell was mostly kept in close proximity to the Waotu '25, Tawhi scoring for Mumaku clr.se to touch-in-goal. Eskridge took the kick and placed u magnificent goal amidst the loud applause ef the spectators. On resuming play Waotu put in some splendid rushes, Tcria eventually scoring a try between the Mamaku goal-posts, which Osborne converted. Thence Mamaku made things lively, and warming up to their work fairly nonplussed their opponents by their repeated charges, the most conspicuous being A. E. Kusabs, Eskridge, Given, Barnes and Mansfield. Tries were scored by Castleton, Eskridge and Given in quick succession, but no goals were kicked. Mr Boyd, of Auckland, acted as referee. After the match both teams adjourned to the Putaruru Hotel, where a sumptuous spread, provided byHost Sherley, awaited them, and when justice had been done sonp,s, speeches, etc., filled up the time till the ariival ot theXgßn. On Saturday afternoon next the Hamil ton team will play 20 all-comers on Sydney Square. All those who would like a game are requested to roll up. It is expected that the second round for the caps will commence on Saturday week, July 2-ttb.
