The Waikato Argus Office, Wednesday MR W.. 1. HUNTER'S OHAUPO SALE On Tuesday Mr W. J. Hunter held his s;ile of turnip cattle at Ohaupo. About 800 head of all classes wore yarded. Of course, most of the stock consisted of grown stems and empty cows, lit for the grazier. The Gisborne cattle did not arrive: owing to the bad weather and state of the roads, but, notwithstanding, there were sufficient brought forward for requirements. The tone of the market could not be culled brisk, but still there was a fan - demand for grown cattle at prices in proportion to the ruling price of beef. Several of the pens were passed, but most of them, I understand, were sold afterwards privately. Calves and young stock were not in demand. The following lines deserve mention as being of a good class and quality and in forward condition, condition making a great difference in the price :—Mr \V. H Herrics. of Shaftesbury, had a splendid line of four-year-old steers in rial good condition, topping the market at to 12s (a difference from last year, when the same class fetched £7). Mr Hugh Graham's lot from Te Puke were very good but ii bit on the small side, and were passed. Mr K. A'. Cox, of Shaftesbury, and Mr Bull, of Waingaro, also had some cood stock, the latter coming next to Mr Herries, selling at i's Is. There were also several pens of good bullocks from the King Country and a good line of empty cows from Williamsou Bros., which sold cheap enough. Mr Selhy, who always brings his cattle to market in good condition, had about the best-conditioned pen in the sale. They were small but fetched a good price—£4 7s (id. Dairy cows were not in demand and only a few were sold. The day was boisterous, but there was a good attend ance of the public, and although the sale dragged a little, most of the lots changed hands.
