TE AWAMUTU.

Town Boakt».—A meeting of the Town Board was held in the Board's office (Town Hall) on Thursday evening last. Ihe commissioners present, were:— MossrsJ. L. Maudeno (chairman), Geo. A bier, F. Gibson, J. B. Teasdale and P. Lynch. A letter was received from G. Williams complaining of cattle straying on the streets at night time. The letter was received. Tbe Clerk was instructed to send out circulars to all persons within the town boundary notifying them that all nibbish, etc. must be deposited on the dumping giound situated at tbe back of the public pound, and that any person found depositing their rubbish on byroads and vacant allotments would be prosecuted. The meeting was adjourned till Thursday next, when some important business will be distu scd. Ruin.—lnnes' old brewery which has stood for so many years collapsed on Friday last. The brcwety was one of the oldest bud lit es in the township, and at one time did a large business in the Waikato. The crash was heard at some considerable distatce off, and some of the people who noticed the dust rising were scon on the spot thinking that it was another tire.

Prohibition.—The Rev. E. Walker, of the New Zealand Alliance, gave an address in the Wesleyan Church last week. There ires a very good attendance present. His remarks were very much on the same lines as those delivered in Hamilton.

Libkaby. —One of our townsmen, Mr Samuel C. Matthews, who was among those willing helpers at the late fire, and who each received a guinea for their services in saving the bank building from destruct'on, has very generously donated his guinea to the funds of our library, a popular well-managed and deserving insti'U ion. The Chairman of the Library Committee desires, on behalf of himself and committee, to publicly thank Mr Matthews for his generosity, and at the same time cordially invites any others of our so disposed liberal minded townsmen to "go and do likewise."—Own Correspondent).
