Tuk Waikato Akous Office, Wednesday. McNICOL AND CO.'S SALE. On Tuesday, at Messrs McNicol and Co.'s Ohaupo sale, there was a very small muster of cattle, only about 140 held. There weie only a few dairycows, and no grown steers. Calves still maintained their price, but all other stcck was comparatively low. The tone of the market was easy, but although several pens were passed, nearly everything was sold afterwards privately. The following arc the prices:— Dairy cows-, up to I - .'! Tins New Zealand Loan & Mlkcav tii.e Auency Company, Ltd , report under date, London, March 20th : Market : There is no material change to report in the position of the market for frozen mutton. Really prime carcases have been in short supply, and a large proportion of the mutton offered has been of secondary quality. This has naturally tended to weaken the market, and until these parcels have been cleared any material improvement in prices can hardly be looked for. Sheep of plain and indifferent quality are in excess of the demand, and the better class of buyers have had to satisfy their requirements from hoTie killed and German meat. Lambs meet a fair enquiry, and prime qualities realise up to oid.per lb. Considerable quantities of last seasons, more or ltss stale and oIT colour, continue to be marketed, and for which relatively low prices Invc to be accepted. The best descriptions of Australian mutton meet a fairly ready sale at '2jd and 2,d per lb, and there is only a slight difference in value between these and secondary New Zealand. While supplies of frozen meat have recently been • ms derably augmented prices rom tin firm. Today's (nictations at Sinithlield are : - Prime selected New Zealand mutton, 2s to '2s 2d per Sib ; average do., Is Oil to Is lOd ; inferior do., Is 4d to Is 5d ; Australian mutton (Merino), Is 3d ; do. (crossbred), la Od ; prime New Zealand lamb (old season), '2s lid to'2s Sd ; do. (new season), 3s 4d to 3s Sd ; Australian lamb, '2s to is Sd ; do. beef, fores, 2s to 2s 2d ; do. hinds, 2s 3d to 2s sd. Butter: The demand during the past three weeks has been disappointing, especially in the Provinces, and with a reduction in the price of all descriptions and pressure on the part of some holders of Australasian, values have ruled lower. Supplies of English are also large for the time of year, and this has curtailed the country demand for imported butter. There is rather a better tone at the close to-dav, and prices are somewhat tinner. To-day's quotations are as follows: Finest, 02s to SJui per cwt ;_good to tine, 80s to SSs ; inferior, GOs to 745.
