The annual election of members of the Matamata Road Board will be held on Wednesday, sth May, nominations being receivable up to Tuesday, 27th inst.

A meeting of members of the South Aueklaed Racing Club is convened to be held in the Hamilton Hotel on Saturday evening next, to receive the report and balance-sheet for the last race meeting.

We understand that several weddings will be celebrated during the next fortnight, the contracting parties being old and respected residents of Waikato. The first of the scries will take place in Auckland to-morrow (Wednesday). More anon.

lb is officially notified elsewhere that legal proceedings will bo taken by tlic Wdipa County Council tor the recovery of rates two years in linear on the 30th May next, and a'so that 10 per cent, will te added to the current rate if not paid by that date. Messrs McNicol and Co. will hold a sale of horses at Tc Arohi on Saturday, tMth April, when they will offer GO first class hacks and harness horses overland from East Coast and Oisborne. These horses have been specially selected for this market, and are a good lot. The sale will commence at 10 o'clock sharp. Entries for the Root and Produce Show, to be held at Cambridge on Wednesday, O.tli June, under the auspices of the Waikato Farmers' Club, close on Saturday, sth June. Prizes are offered for roots, grain, dairy produce, and poultry (live and dead). Full particulars will be supplied upon application to the Secretary (Mr Martin Butler), Cambridge. Dr. Hosking began his ministry in the Handlton-Te Awamutu circuit on Sunday, preaching in Trinity Wesleyan Church, Hamilton, morning and evening. He delivered two impressive sermons, which wire highly appreciated by large congregations. Next Sunday the Sun-day-school anniversary will he celebrated, when the doctor will again oitlciatc morning and evening. As is usual, the musical selections will be a feature of these services. A large number of the children have been practising appropriate hymns, etc., most assiduously for some weeks past. The annual treat in connection with the Sunday and day fchools connected with St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hamilton, took place yesterday, on Mr A. Swarbrick's farm, kindly lent for the occasion by Mr Walter Chit'y. Father Amandolini was present, and Mrs McCarrigle, Mis Chitty, Mrs Callaghan and other ladies ami gei*tlemtn of the congregation dispensed refreshments to all and sundry, and organised sports and games of various descriptions for the amusement of the young folks. Vehicles were provided by members of the congregation for the conveyance of the children to and from the farm, and a happy day was spent by all present. Two services were conducted at the Ohaupo Presbyterian Church on Sunday, 18th inst , in connection with the Sabbath School Anniversary. The church was very tastefully decorated with flowers and ferns, over the pulpit were the words, "Hail the Children's Day." The Rev. J. M. Mitchell, of Hamilton, conducted the morning service, taking for his te\t Maik, x, 13 and 11 verses, from which a very interesting and instructive sermon was preached to the scholars, who gave him every attention. AfUr the sermon the rev. gentleman sang a solo, the congregation joining in the chorus. During the collection Miss Maud Suirgcs sang a solo, the scholars joining in the chorus. The service in the evening was conducted by Mr Holloway, of Tc Awamutu, who gave an eloquent address based on John J, -)."> and -Hi verses. During the offertory Miss Sturges sang in a very pleasing manner "The Last Milestone," which was much appreciated by the congregation. The singing of the children at. both services was very creditable to their superintendent, Mrs Freeman. The church was well filled at both set vices, the collection amounting to JL'4 17s.

An election to fill three vacancies in the Waitoa Road Board will lie held on Thursday, (ith May. Nominal ions must reach the Returning Ollicer (Mr A. Bremncr), Morriusvil'c, by noon of Tuesday, 27th inst.

On Good Friday evening there was a rceit'.l of sacred music suitable to the day in St. Andrew's Church, Camblidgc. Miss Main gave a, pleasing interpretation of " The Holy City,' 1 and Miss Peterson was equally tuoecssful with " Calvary/' "The Story of the Crors," a kind of service of song, was also given, the solos bomg taken by Mis ('hilly, Miss Peterson, an 1 Mr Perkins. The choir assisted in the last-mentioned and also sang the choruses " Sur< ly " and " Worthy is the Lamb " from the Messiah, from which work Misa Fisher gave " But Thou Didst Not Leave His Soul In Hell," with its accompanying recitative, and Mr Perkins " Thy IxOhuke Hath Broken His Heart " and •' Behold and Sec." Both acquitted themselves well. Mr C. Stuart played two clarionet solos very emotively. '1 ho congregation was a small one.
