RAGLAN.
MUTUAL Imekovkment Society. The annual meeting of the Raglan Mutual Improvement Society was held in the school-room, ltaglan, on Wednesday evening, April 7th, Mr J. N. PcgUr (President) in the chair. The secretary read the minutes and the treasurer sub mitted the balance-sheet, which showed a cicdit balance of IM 13a 2d. Messrs Moon, Hill, Hibbs and Smith, and Mrs Stubbing were elected members of the Society. The rules of the Society having been read over and considered, several alterations and new rules were given notice of for consideration at the next meeting. The (lection of officers for the ensuing year then took place : President: For this otHcc several members were propesed and balloted for, Mr Henry being c'cc'cd. Vice-President : Mr Jas. Ecndell. Treasurer an 1 Librarian : Mr La Trobc. Secretary : Mr Roffcy. Committee : Miss Rendcll, and Mc«srs Williams, A. L. Pegler, and Schnaekcnbcrg. At the next meeting the president is to give an address, to be followed bj JI setns'on. Sr.Y-oKoe; Casks.—The cases referred to in a late issue arc to be 1 card here before Capr. Jackson on the 2Gth hist. Ixsi'KCTOK. —Ixspcttcr llickscn is to visit here in connection with his department next week. Cm.rs.—At the Kopua Native Reserve, the other side of Raglan, at the foot cf Karioi, and I clow the f ilut Station, the natives' late planted potatoes have proved nearly a failuic owing to rotting in the ground in ccmequcnce of excessive raic. Their kumaia ciops, however, are good this year. Vciy little fishing seems to have been dene this season, as little or eo fish are hanging out around their settlement as in former years. .Farming Notes. Mr McJannet, who leased the Pilot Station, has had a large quantity of land cleared and burnt off, and is now calling for tenders for grass seed, sowing, fencing, etc. He has erected a house and other buildings just below Mr Mitchell's boundary, and en the other side of the road he has erected other buildings on the property he lately bought. He has also cleared and burnt off a large piece of ground on this block, which he intends ploughing, planting and fencing at an early date. Mr H. Dando is also busy en his property adjoining, having burnt off sixty acres or so, which he is fencing off ard getting ready for the plough. Mr Mitchell besides his usual farm operation of grass seed sowing, etc., has a large paddock, of several acres, of turnips, which are looking very well,—(Own Correspondent).
