NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
Tin: ordinary month')' meeting of the above Board was lieUl at the office, Oliotc, on Wednesday. There were prosent : —Messrs Cot boy (chairman), Byeroft, Clow ami Shepher I. CoKKEaro>*DESOB. —A letter was dealt with from the Hunua Roard Board, re co-operation of producers —lt was decided that while sympathising with the movement it was more a matter for Farmers' Clubs or Agricultural Societies to deal with. Fumze. —A legal opinion was received from Mr 1... O'Neill upon the fnrzs question, which showed that for refusing or neglecting to remove furze after ttvo months' notice, the culprits, whether owners or occupiers, were liable to a penalty of £1 per day, and the cost of eradicating the furze, if undertaken by the Board, would be a charge against the land. Bates. —Acrmmunicition from .Messrs Devorc and Cooper was received, re the rates on Lots 145 acd 100, Horetin.— From the Land and Income Tax Department, informing the Board that the et.suinq rate would be collected on the old valuation roll, the new one not being ready. Pu-is.-Mr S. A. Calder applied for a set of pipes to take the drainage from his land across the road at the back of the YVhatawhati township, and offered to put them in free of charge.—The Chairman explained that the proposed drain would not be of any benefit to the read, and the application was declined, but permission was given Mr Calder to put in a set of pipes at h's own expenses, piovided they are put down for the whole width of the road and kept in good order, Tuii'.s os' Road. —Complaints hiving bem made respecting the damage done by some pine trees growing on the road near Fraser's bri Ige, To Kowhai —The Chairman was fuitho.iscd to have them removed. The Board also accepted Mr Wymnil's offer to cut any trees on his land which were over-shading and injuring the road. Kakakariki Boad.—The Chairman reported that this load, which was opened lust year at a rost of about £l4, a third of which was subscribed by the sett'ers, was in need of s-.mc rcp-irs before the wet weather set in —ln respect to this work Mr H. Skewes wiote objecting to any expenditure upon it, as only benefiting or.e pcrton, i.nd would prefer to have the money laid out on the roid through MesM's Maeredie and Martins' land.-The Chairman explained that Mr Skewes was one of those who first wishcil to have the Karakariki Read made, and also .-bowed the Board that even if Maeredie's Road could be made—and the cost was certainly quite beyond I lie means of the Board at pre6eilt —Mr Skewes would still require to travel over that portion of the Karakariki Boad (upon which it was proposed to effect tiie repair.-) to get out from his farm. —lt was decided that Mr Skewes letter be received and that a sum not exceeding £5 be expended on the road leading through Messrs Skewes and .-trakauis' properties. Fitzgkkali.'s Road.—The Chairman reported having taken the levels for the outfall drain, and found that in about tin chains, IV. (in. fall could lie ohtained.—lt was deeded to make the drain, provided Mr Fitzgerald opened up a dram a'oiig his road boundary to lead the water to the outlet.
