With reference to the statement to the effect that fiiction exists between the Government and the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Press states that on making inquiry at the heart office it finds there is no foundation whatever for the report. The company was never asked to supply accommodation for the Premier and party, and the only communications, which have passed applied to the transport of volunteers and Maoris. The company kept, space open in the Tongariro as long as possible, bin ts it would not !><; possible to obtain the sanction of Parliament in time to allow of fitting up the ship, they agreed to reserve .space for the Government passengers in the Ruabine, an arrangement which the. company believe the Government are perfectly satisfied with.
