TE AROHA TOWN BOARD.

Tin: adjourned monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Town Hoard was held on Monday night, at 730 o'clock. There were present : Commissioners T. Gavin (chairman), Gallagher, Knock, Bygrave and MacUie, Intimation was received from the Government that the sum of £l4 lis 9d had been placed to the Board's credit in the Bank of iMew Zealand, Ohinemuri, on account of gohlln-lds revtnue. A letter was received from Mr H. 11. Metcalfe re visiting Te Aroha in eonoeo tion with a water supply scheme. —Corlespondence also received from Messrs McJndoe and Hill aud Mr G. Robxon regarding needful repairs to the footpath opposite their respective premises.—lt was deeided to undertake the necessary repairs and to order a sufficient quantity of tar for the purpose. —The Board expressed surprise at not having received a communication from Mr I'. Gilclnist in connection with ihe amended by-laws. The Chairman stated that he had communicated witli Mr Metcalfe lelative to a water supply for the town, and that gentleman had been to Te Aroha, and in company with himself (the chairman) and Commissioner Gallagher had gone as far as the waterfall, and from there had taken the required distances am', levels. Mr Metcalfe's report was now before them, and they would see it was a most exhaustive oue, going minutely into all the necessary details. The estimated cost submitted, including engineer's expenses and all, contingences, was £2,403, white the cost of maintenance would be merely nominal.—Commissioner Knock taid the matter had been very clearly put by Air Metcalfe, and he thought the sooner the money was raised and the work undertaken the better.—The Chairman sail Mr Cadman had informed him that no difficulty would be experienced by the Board in raising the money. He thought the best plan would be to get a copy of the report made out and forwarded to Mr Cadman, to ascertain what steps it would be nscessary for the Board to take re borrowing, etc. It was resolved, on the motion of Commissioner Gallagher, seconded by Commissioner Knock, that application be made to the Piako County Council for £IOO towards the maintenance of the main thoroughfares in the town district. The Works Committee reported that the road in the vicinity of Stoney Creek had been metalled aud the cutting finished. The Stoney Creek Bridge was about to be re-built by the Piako County Council. The Clerk stated that the cash in the hank to the Board's credit was £57 2s Bd, and the accounts passed for payment amounted, to £53 7s 4d, which would leave a credit balance of £3 15s 4d. There were several outstanding accounts to come in. The meeting then adjourned.
