POLO ON THE SABBATH.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I notion some party over the signature of " Wnipa " has made misstatements with regard to myself. His charge is that I have reported a prominent Government official for playing polo on the Sabbath by telegram, making it appear that I was rushing to injure the man. The truth is that some three years ago we were surprised to see a party, headed by Constable Cavanagh, playiog polo on Sunday on a Board endowment and several roads. I asked them if they knew it was Sunday, and that they were playing on the public roads. They said they knew all about it, and to get out of the road or they would run over me. Some few Sundays ago I was surprised to see the game started again on the .same ground. I remonstrated, and got in consequence a gcod deal of abuse on Monduy. I then wired to the Minister of Justice and wrote subsequently, not mentioning any names but that of the constable.—l am, etc., Edward John Moeeatt. [The above gives a summary of what Mr MotFatt did. The question of the legality of the proceedings of the polo players is not one for discussion in our columns.—Ed. W. A.].
