POLO PLAYING ON SUNDAY,

♦ TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It has for some time been an open secret in this township that Mr Moffatt has reported by telegraph (it was so important he could not lose a day), a prominent Government official for playing polo on Sunday " ou a public road." Mr Moffatt does not appear to object on religious grounds to the came being played on Sunday, but that it should have been played on a public road. As this term is, to say the least, misleading, I would crave a space in your paper in explanation. The place where the game was played is a piece of ground half a mile at least from the township, and was upwards of two years ago purchased for the purpose of being enclosed as a ground where cricket, football, and all games could be played ; it was found that a road was marked off to run through it, and it could not be enclosed ; this is the public road or street to which Mr Moffatt refers. As Mr Moffatt is geneially looked upou in this district as the setter to right of all wrongs, real or imaginary, I would ask him why he does not carry out the promise be gave upwards of two years ago when he wanted to be elected on the Town Board. He said if returned he would do all in his power to have all roads, streets and river frontages that were enclosed by private persons thrown open. Mr Moffatt was returned, and has betn on the Board ever siuce, but has not kept his promise,— I am, Sir, your obedient servant, Waipa. Ngaruawahia, 19th March, 1897.
