The Waikato Arhus Office. Wednesday. McNICOL AND CO.’S OHAUI’O SALK. At Messrs MeNieol ami Co.'s sale on Tuesday, there was a big muster of stock, about 550 of all classes being yarded, and many of them of real good quality and in forward condition. There was also another good line in from Hautapn, but it was also passed. The tone of the market was decidedly flat for a'l classes of stock, with the exception of calves, and which sold fairly well. There was only a few dairy cows, and they were dull of sale. Very little demand for >eef. After the sale was over about 200 head of •* one sort or another,” were sold privately. No doubt owing to the low price of beef ruling in the Auckland market, the graziers are funky about buying.—(Obaupo Correspondent). FROZEN MEAT; The New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd,, report under date, Loudon, January 29th : With a continuance of cold weather, mutton has met a fairly good demand, while there has been a brisk trade in frozen beef. There is no change to report in the values of New Zealand and Australian* mutton. With a somewhat larger supply of lamb on the market, chiefly Australian, values have remained moderately firm. If supplies be not forced on the market as the season advances, the demand should improve. The prices ftf American chilled beef have been relatively high, viz. 4{d to 4kl, and 6d to 6:[-d for tores and hinds respectively. This has caused a good demand for frozen beef, which has been firmly held, and prices have marked a sharp advance to 3Jd for fores, and 3gd to 3Jd for hinds. To-day’s quotations at Smithfield are :—Prime selected New Zealand mutton, 2s 2d to 2s 4d per 8 lb ; average, la 7d to Is lid ; inferior, Is 4cl to Is stl ; Australian mutton (Merino), Is 4d ; Australian mutton (crossbred), Is od ; prime New Zealand lamb, 2s 6d to 2s 8d; Australian lamb, 2s to 2s 4d ; Australian beef fores, 2s 2d ; Australian hinds, 2s 5(1 to 2s 6(1.
