Chaff is reported as slow of sale. The demand for oats is increasing, and a better demand exists for sharps. AUCKLAND MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report:—Auckland Wool Stores, 17th February, 1897.—This week we offered a large catalogue. Prices for hides showed an advance on previous rates. Skins sold firmly, but at no quotable change. Quotations: Hides: Prime stout ox, 5Jd to GJd ; heavy stout, 4id to ojd ; light and medium, 3 : }d to 4£d ; cow, best lines, 3}d to 3|d ; scored and sloppy, 2fd to 3d ; kip, 2fd to 3id; calf, cut, 2d to 3d ; best lines, 3fd to ssd. Shjeepskins: Longwool, 48 3d to ss; lambs, Is 3d to 3s ; pelts, salted, 9d to Is Cd ; dry and damaged, Id to 4d. Wool, at late rates; horse hair, Is per lb; tails, Is 5d per dozen ; tallow, 12s 6d to 15s 6d per cwt. ; Sydney blood manure, £3 5s to £4; according to quantity ; New Zealand bone and blood, £4 10s to £5 ; bonednst, £5 5s to £5 15s. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Weekly Report.—Grain, seeds, horsefeed : The supply has been ample for the requirements of a moderate demand. We quote : Maize on wharf, 2s 7d ; ex store, 2s lOd ; feed oats, 2s 6d ; seed oats, 2s 8d bushel; bran, £4 ton. Horses were less numerous than on the previous week, and heavy draught were poorly represented, and consequently the previous week's prices were not reached. Barely an average number was submitted by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday. Heavy draught sold at from £l2 10s to £lB 10s ; medium draught, £9 10s to £l3 10s ; light harness, £5 10s to £l2 15s ; weeds, £1 to £1 15s each. Wool, hides, skins, tal'ow, bones- : Moderate quantities were pitched at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, and met with brisk demand. Stout ox and cow hides advanced in value, prime stout ox being worth s£d to 6Ad ; stout ox, 2jd to 5d ; steers, 2|d to Sid ; cows, 3d to 3Jd ; calf-skins, 3d to 4Jd lb ; tallow, lis to 12s 3d cwt ; bones, £3 ton ; sheepskins, Is lOd to 3s each ; pelts, 4d to Is 3d ; lambskins, 6d to 2s .5d ; wool, fleece in dumps and bags, 4Jd to 6jd lb ; pieces, 3d to s|d. Cattle : Scarcely the usual number have been brought forward. A good demand existed for fat and dairy stock at fully the previous week's values. The butchers' pens at Newmarket were principally occupied by cows, which eold at from 16s to 18s 1001 b, and fat oxen at from 19s to 21s 1001 b. Sheep : The Newmarket Yards were well filled on Tuesday. Bidding was good throughout the sale, and values had a decided upward tendency. Wethers sold at from 8s Gd to 103 9d each ; ewes, 6s 6d to 10s 3d ; mixed sexes, 8s to 9s 9d ; lambs, plentiful, sold at from 4s 9d to 9s 6d. Pigs scarce. Porkers from 23s to 30s ; weauers, Gs 6d to 8s Gd each. Messrs Alfred Buckland & Sons' Weekly Report.—At the Haymarket, meadow hay has brought from 2s to 2s 3d ; oaten sheaves, Is 9d to 2s Gd cwt ; straw, 12s to 18s the load ; oats, 2s 6d ; maize, 2s lOd ; Italian ryegrass, 3s 9d ; Poverty Bay ryegrass, 6s ; cocksfoot, 7s, 6d ; barley, 3s 9d bushel; chaff. £3; pressed hay, £3 10s ; bonedust, £G 5s ; Chesterfield guano, £3 10s ton ; maize, on wharf, 2s 8d bushel. On Friday, horse stock of a good class were required. Heavy draught brought £24 and £2B; medium draught, £l2 10s to £l3 ; light harness, £6 to £9 ; the roadsters advertised, £4 10s and £9 respectively. On Tuesday, hides were in demand at fully last week's values. Ox hides were from 3£d to sid ; cow hides, 3Jd to 3§d ; calfskins, 4£d to 4Jd lb: tallow, 12s Gd to 13s cwt; fit, Id lb; pelts. 9d to 2s Id each ; skins, 3s Gd to 09 8d each ; lambskins, lid to Is lid each; fleece, wool, 61 d to Gid ; locks and pieces, 2d to' 3£d lb. At Pokeuo, ou Monday, and Drury, on Wednesday, store cattle of all classes were yarded numerously. Bidding was free, and all yarded sold at an advance over late values. Dairy cows at profit were in less Dumber than usual, those yarded were from £4 to £5 each. At Kemuera on Thursday dairy cows in average number were in fair inquiry ; prices for those at profit were from £4 to £7 each. Store cattle in average number were freely competed for,particularly dry cow 3. Fat and youne calves in less number than required ; sold satisfactorily. Fat cattle iu average supply, 200 yarded ; were principally steers of medium to heavy weights ; prices were from 18s to 20s 1001 b. and were lower as the sale proceeded. Steers brought from £5 to £9 15s, cows, £3 12s 6d to £5 17s 6d each. Sheep in usual number, 1300 sold ; scarcely kept late values, prices for wethers were more 9s to lis 3d, ewes 6s to 9s 3d each. Fat lambs in moderate number, 200 sold ; were from 6s to 10s each. Few pigs offered
