# DUEING the visit of the Australian Premiers to England, in connection ■with the coming Hoyal celebrations, Ihey will be banqueted by the Colonial Institute and the London Chamber of Commerce. The Spanish troops have defeated the Philippine rebels, killing one hundred and wounding many others. The rebels lost their entrenched position. The appeal againsttho appointment of Mr Alex. Young as receiver for tho New Zealand Midland Eailway • Company has been dismissed. The United States Senate has modified the Bill dealing with immigration. It is now proved that immigrants must be able to read and write some language. In the House of Commons, the second reading of Mr Samuel's Boilers and Engines Bill was carried by a majority of G 6 votes. The Bill requires persons in charge of boilers and engines in mines to hold certificates of competency, The Government opposed the second reading on the ground that it would weaken the liability of employeis.
