THE WEATHER.
o . DuntMi the past two days the district has had some almost phenomenal rain, the fall on several occasions being as heavy, if not heavier, than any that we can remember. The longest spell of the heavy downpour was early yesterday morning, and the result of the fall is that from all sides wc hear of damage to roads. On the Raglan-Waipa read a big slip has occurred near the foot of the mountain on the Raglan side, some chain of the road being blocked by a great mass of earth. Mr Donaldson kindly took the news of the block on the road to Waitetuna, aud the mailman had to leave his coach there, bringing the mails on by pack-horse. He could not, however, get over the slip, aud had to come round by the old track. Workmen arc cDgaged at tho place, and it is expected that the coach will get through all right on Tuesday. The Swamp Road is in many places under water for chains, the swamp nearest Hamilton being covered over three feet deep, with the water rushing across like a mill race. The embankment at the Hamilton Tralfic Bridge is also in a very bad state bciug almost impassable, and, unless the contractor soon resumes work, will be quite so. Other minor damapc has been done in various parts, and if wc do not get a spell of fine weather soon there will be no chance* of getting the roads into repair before the winter. The heavy rains have washed out a large rut in Victoria-stcot, Cambridge, which requires the immediate attention of the Borough authorities. On Thursday it caused a child to be thrown out of a buggy. Fortunately the little one escaped serious injury. The barometer yesterday, after standing high for the past few days, commune d to fall, and last night the weather looked none too settled.
