STABBING AFFRAY AT TE KUITI.
0 A MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. ROBBERY THE ALLEGED MOTIVE. TWO ARRESTS MADE. Yesterday morning a man, named Kenneth Bains, was received into the Waikato District Hospital from Te Kuiti, suffcriug from a severe punctured wound in his right side. It appears that Bains, who was a recent arrival in the district, was staying at Bennett's boarding-house. On Wednesday evening he was in his bedroom with a half-caste lad, when two men came in and a squabble ensued, the lad clearing out. As far as can be ascertained Bains, in the struggle which occurred, was stabbed in the tight side with a pen knife, and when he fell to the ground was then kicked by his assailants. Bams must then from loss of blood, have become unconscious as he remembers nothing until the following morning when he was found in an exhausted condition. His pockets had been rifled and the contents were strewed about the room, some money being missing. Constable Stanyer, of Otorohanga, was communicated with and lie immediately proceeded to To Kuiti and arrested two Germans on a charge of assault. He also attended to Bains' injuries, and had him sent to the Hospital by train on Friday. On making enquiries at the hospital yesterday afternoon, wc learnt that tiie injured man is in a very precarious condition, the wound being in a dangerous position, and it <vas not thought advisable to make too severe an examination for fear of starting the bleeding agaiu, the patient being in a weak state. The prisoners will be brought up on the charge and no doubt remanded to see how the injuries to Bain may result.
