FEDERATION.
Sydney, December 15. In the course of a speech referring to federation the Governor said if Australia was ever to become a power it would have to be a maritime power. He regretted that Queensland had allowed provincial prejudices to ovetcoiue national interest. There were some who could not approach federation except from the point of view of gain or loss to their own provinces or even parishes. The difficulties could be overcame, but only by the recognition of a national spirit.
