INSTALLATION OF MAYORS.

HAMILTON. Tin: installation of Mr \V. Dey as Mayor of Hamilton for the third term was celebrated at the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. 'J'liero were present : Lis. R. J. Gwynre, \V. Jones, K. V. Sandcs, 1). Sahron, and Jno. Bettlcy. Cr. Maudes was called to the chair on the motion of Cr. Jones, seconded by Cr. Bettlcy. The Returning Oflicer notified the election of Mr VV. Dey as Mayor, and he being in attendance was introduced by Crs Jones ar.d .Salmon. The Chairman welcomed the Mayorelect on his re-clect ; on, ami cxprissed a hope that the amicable feelings that had existed between the Mayor and Councillors in the past would continue. Mr Dey then made the usual formal declaration, and thanked the burgesses for again placing him in the honourable position of Mayor of the Borough. He also thanked the Councillors for the harmonious way in which they had all worked with him in tl • last, and he hoped that the same good feeling would continue, all working together for the good of the Borough, The overdraft at present stood rather high, but he thought with careful arlnr'nistration during the coming year it might be considerably reduced. After thanking the Councillors for attending, some of whom he knew had done co at considerable inconvenience, the Mayor took his sear. The Councillors and several friends. at His Worship's invitation, adjourned to the Hamilton Hotel, where the Mayor's health was drunk. CAMBRIDGE. The statutory mee'ing of the Cambridge Borough Council for the instal'ation of the Mayor was held at '2 p.m. yesterday. There were present:—His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. Bach), who bad been reelected to the office. Councillors W. H. Wright, C. \V. Arnold, R. Davies and T. W. Simpson. Mr Bach having made the usual declaration, took his seat in the civic chair. He thanked the burgesses for having shown their continued confidence in him by reelecting him unopposed and said he should in the future, as he had done in the past, endeavour to do his duty to the ratepayers without fear or favour. He gave a resume of the business done during the year, and pointed out that the Council bad now worked (.(fall its ' dead horses.' During the past year £3O had been refunded to the Domain Board for improvements on the Thornton Road and £4O bad been paid for the maintenance of the Wiiikato Bridge. The former would never recur and the latter would probably noi do so for about five years. llts Worship said his relations with the Councillors during his term of ollice had been of the most e ird'al kind and he trusted they would remain so during his now extended term. The Town Clerk said it had been a pleasure to work under Mr Bach as Mayor during the. past yc.r and he looked forward to an equally pleisant term during the twelve nuntbs they were then entering upon. Cr. Simpson said he thought a record of the Council's appreciation of Mr Bach's services should be placed upon the records of the Council, and he moved : " That til's Council thanks Mr Bach for the admirable manner in which he had managed Ihe affairs of the borough during the past year ; they had been conducted amicably with ability and dispatch, and the Council e nijrafculate him uroii his re-election to the office." .Seconded by Cr. The overdraft would be £15,000 next March, as against £10,.")00 at last March. He intended to lay a proposal before the Council tvhich be hoped would place the finances on a more satisfaetoiy basis. Auckland, Last Night. The Mayoral installations took place in the city ami suburbs to-day. Mr Holland, the retiring Mayor of Auckland received a handsome patting gift from the Councillors. Mr A. Boardman was duly installed. Mr J. Tbornes took ollice as Mayor of Parnell in succession to Mr S. von Stunner. Mr Shackleford was installed as Mayor of Newton.
