Our Raglan correspondent writes : —There is a slight mistake in the County Council report re dog registrars. It should read : Te.Akau and Karioi, W. I. Com*:uli, not J. Calder ; he is for Karamu and D. Bruce for Pirong'a. The others were correct. Mr \V. J, Hunter advertises a sale of horses to be held in the Cambridge Yards on Wednesday, Kith inst., when in addition to a number from local breeders a draft of 20 broken anil unhioken, buggy and coaching horses from Cisborno wdl be offered. The lambing season, which is just over (reports our Raglan correspondent) has been very satisfactory in many parts of the district ; this has been especially so on the To Akuu Estate, the manager of which reports an increa.-e of one hundred per cent. A large meeting of settlers was held in the Wairangi Valley Schoolroom on Saturday evening last, to consider the matter of electing a creamery in that locality. The district is a very fertile, one, with plenty of rich pasturage, and the right stamp to make, things hum if there is anything at all in dairying. Two men named E, J. Branigan and H. (bivinne were brought up at the .Police Court, I'neroa, on Tuesday, charged with having issued valueless cheques amounting to A'2S. The latter was discharged, charges not being proven against, him, but the former was committed to take his trial at the Supreme Court. We have had a beautiful fine week (writes a Raglan correspondent), but rain is much wanted. lam sorry to say that the cold, cutting winds in the spring have injured the prospects of good fruit crops in Japanese plums, pears, quinces, etc., in many orchards. Those who have had their trees dressed with pyralicide are anxiously waiting results. On Monday morning a native named Tc Wireinu Matene, was engaged digging sulphur near Tikitere, when *ho crust gave way and he was precipitated into a huge cavity of boiling waterKiwi Amahau, another native, similarly employed close at hand, heard the shrieks of bis unfortunate companion and dragged him out by the hair of the head. Wiremu is so severely scalded, however, that his recovery is hopeless. Both men are well-known footballers.
At the meeting of the Auckland Presbytery, it was agreed that a Commission be appointed to ordain and induct the Rev. J. M. Mitchcdl, at the Hamilton church, on Wednesday, the Kith instant. The Rev. R. Somerville (moderator of the session) was appointed to preside and address the minister ; the Itcv. John McDonald to preach : the Rev. R. Scott-West to address the people ; and the Itcv. R. Ferguson to be also of the commission.
Mr G. T. Mann, of Cambridge, notifies in another column, that all correspondence tor him should from this date be addressed to Hamilton. Mr Mann, we understand, has completed arrangements for taking over the Commercial Hotel in Hamilton, about the middle of this month and as an old Wai kato resident and being so well known throughout the district should command a fair share of public patronage. Baldwin, of Wellington, was elected sectetary and treasurer of the Club for the year ]S',Hi-7. At Wellington tin; Chief .Justice has given judgment in the tieddiou.se ease, McArthy v. Kelleher. In the course of his judgment he said the case involved a claim for damages for breach of covenant. Defendant agreed to take all the beer consumed in his hotel from plaintiir during the existing lease of seven years, or any extended term. Defendant admitted having purchased beer from other brewers, but contended that the covenant mentioned above came to an end lor various reasons slated. When the case was before the Court upon that part of the defence under which defendant claimed to have been served with inferior beer, [lis Honor held that this defence had not, been established, He ilid not think any deceit had been practised upon defendant, but he thought that the particular portion of the defence, in which it was claimed that the covenant was an unreasonable restraint, of trade, especially as the price was to be, li\ed by the plaintiff, hid been established. This, ii. is understood, is an important decision, and one which may have wide ell'ccl. On the whole, His Honor was of opinion that judgment must t;c lor lU'l'eotlatit.
Hamilton is to be visited by a really first-class comedy and burlesque company in the shape of the Dclohcry, Craydon and Holland's. Elite Company, who hive appeared in all the leading cities and towns of New Zealand. The New Zealand Herald of July 9th says : " The advent in the Opnra House of the Delohery, Craydon and Holland Company from Sydney lias filled a void in the "amusement world of Auckland and filled it, with the greatest success. At the opening night the theatre was packed and money refused at all the doors. Everything went with a swing and nothing dragged, double encores being the order of the evening, ami we unhesitatingly declare the company the hest of its kind which hns appeared in the city for some considerable time."
