SERIOUS LARRIKINISM.

TO THK EDITOR. Sin,—A party of Nquruawaliia residents journeyed to Jluntly on Friday night to attend and assist at the Musical Society's concert. Amount them were four ladies who took part in the entertainment, At about 1 :iil p.m. as they wove preparing tr> return to Ngaruawalua they were attacked by a crowd of the Ifuntly larrilttns. To the disgrace of Huntly these representatives of the population stoned the visitors, ladies and all ; They delulged the party with sand and attempted to start the horses oil'. All this occurred while the visitors were waiting in the vehicle in the lamplight in front ot the hall. Fortunately none of the ladies were struck by anything but sand, but Messrs Skelton, James and Hell were hurt, by halves of bricks, etc. That ladies should be stoned right in front of a place of public entertainment is a disgrace to the police force, and for their credit it is to be hoped that this affair will be followed up, otherwise it will be another reflection on " the farce they call police protection." Tin nio.'t remarkable thing about this cowardly assault is that it was entirely unprovoked. The Xgaruawahia people are seriously contemplating, in view of the next Huntly concert, bringing their own active police officer down with them.— 1 am, etc., Oni; of Tirt: Fakxv.
