Mr Walter Bailey is a candidate for theßangitikiscat in tbeLiticral interests. His candidature h supported by the Government, and Mr Ibyce lias withdrawn from the contc-t, which is expected to be between Messrs E. J. Letheridire and Bailey. The Premier ndelivsscd a large meeting here hist night. He defended the aet'on of the Government and their legislation since they to >k otlice, condemning the previous administration of the Conservatives. He spoke i-i favour of Obi Age Pensions, the re'erendum, which he s id the Government would deal with next session, and the constitution of the Legislative Council, he said with regard to amendment; to p.event measures being thrown out, which had received almost unanimous support in the Lower House. Mr Seddon w»s awarded a unanimous vote of thanks. He was splendidly received both atApiti and Fielding.
