TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CAMBRIDGE.

The Annual Anniversary soirte and concert in connection with the above Church was held in the Oddfellow's Hall, Cambridge, on Thursday evening. Unfortunately the afternoon proved wet, and as the night approached tho ruin became heavier, which doubtless deterred many from leaving their homes, and consequently the attendance was not larg>', in fact, the hall was on'y about three-parts full. Notwithstanding this fact, we expect the venture will prove a financial success, for the tickets for church soirees are usually sold before the before the day on which they take place, and for the good of the church we trust the present occasion did not prove an exception to the rule. Tea was served promptly at 6.30 p.m when the following ladies presided at the tables which were laden with a bountiful supply of eatables ami were prettily decorated with flowers : Mesdames W. Rout, J. Ferguson, F.J. lisooks, R. Fisher, (J. J. Neal, and .1. llally. There were al-o two subscription tables at which Mesdames Taylor and Seymour ollieiated. The Rev \Y. Evans presided. During the concert an excellent musical programme was gone through under the able direction of Mr W. Rout, who is taking an immense amount of trouble to instruct the vocalists of Cambridge in the art of part singing. His choir on Thursday evening consisted t.f the I'lisscs Dean, Kay, MoNaughton, IFow.vtd and Young, Messrs Ferguson, Perkins, Fisher, Dixon, Brooks, Wallace and Laugmui'. The first item was a speech by the Rev. W. Evans, in which he gave in account of how the first general assembly of the Free Church of Scotland came to be forme '. He read letters of sympathy from the Revs, .ScottWest, interim moderator, J. Ilundrick, R. Ferguson, ard J. McDonald, who all expressed regret at being unable to be present; also from the pastor, Per. T. Scott, conveying his goodwill to the congregation and stiling he was improving in health. 'J he Chairmui then referred most feelingly to the absence of their paa'or through indisposition, and strongly urg d the congregation to e'eave to theirchurch andsupport their minister. The musical items were all vocal as follows:—Glee, "The Chough and Crow," by the choir, the solos being taken by Messrs Bout, lVrkin.?, and Dixon ; song, " Killarney," Miss Dean ; song, " True to the Last," Mr Langmuir ; duet, " 0 Albion," Messrs Rout and Perkins ; song and chorus, " The Rose of Allandale," solo, by Mrs 11. Ferguson ; g'ce, " Rataplan," choir drum accompaniment by Mr Harvey ; King, " The Pardon Came Too Lite," Mss (! irlaud, encored and " Listening " sub titutcd ; double quartette, " You Stole My Love," by members of the. choir— ; thc worst of the cone rtcd pieces ; glee, " From Oberon," choir ; song, " Daddy," Mrs C. Hunter ; solo and chorus, " Upidee," solo by Mr Dixon, encored ; comic duet, " Polly Hopkins," Mrs ][. F< rgnson and Mr Pctkins, encored and repeated ; song, " If I Were a Knight," Mr W. W'aPaee ; song, " Willie's Cang Awa'," Mi-is Dean ; song, " The Skipper," Mr Langmuk, one red and " Nancy Lee " substituted ; glee, " The Carnival," eho : r. The singing of the National Anthem close 1 the meeting. A lerrible crowd of young larrikins congregated together at the back of the hall and made things v, ry unc nifortable for tltove who wished to listen to tho performers, but they seem to be allowed full license ;it urst soirees.
