TiieWatkato Argus Office, Wednesday MR W. J. HUNTER'S TE UKU SALE. At Mr W. J. Hunter's sale at Te Uku, on Ist October, there was a very good attendance of settlers and others, but not much stock was yarded A few good animals, but mest of middling quality. Most of the cattle offered were pissed, not reaching the reserve. The following were the pricc3 : Three-year-old steers, £2 12s 6.1 ; two -yew-old, steers, £i ; springing heifers, £2 lis Sd. A few sheep were offered, but not sold. McNICOL'S TE MATA SALK. At Te Mata to-day (Wednesday), 200 head of cattle were yarded, principally young cattle and heifers in calf. Anything well-bred and in fair condition sold readily, 140 being disposed of. Three-year-old steers, in backward condition, £3 17s 6d ; yearlings and one-and-a-half year at: srs. i'2 to £2 10s; heifers, sime a"e, 32s 01 to 37s 6d ; two to two-and-a half-year-old, £2 2s 6d to C2 7s ; calves, ISs to 29s ; ewes with limbs at side, 8s 3d ; fresh conditioned empty, £2 10s to £4. MR W. J. HUNTER'S OHAUPO SALE. On Tuesday, at Mr W. J. 1 ranter's sale, about 400 head'.of cattle were yarded, most of them of a good class and in fair condition. There was a good muster of well-bred calves, the demand for that class being fairly brisk. About 40 dairy cows were offered, many of a good quality, but the demand was slack and many were passed. There were a few pens of grown steers in good forward condition, which sold well up to £0 13s (id. Empty cows were dull of sale. ]>cef sold fairly well up to Ko 10s for fat cows. The tone of the market was dull. The following are the prices :—Dairy cows, from £3 10= to £5 ; 2 pens good steer calves, 2Ss ; 1 pen IS-niouths-old steers, £2 12s ; 1 pen mixed yearlings, 37s ; 1 pen rough do. and in low condi tion, 22s ; 1 pen calves, :23s ; 1 pen do , 24s Od ; 1 pen yearling steers, in good condition, £2 ; 1 pen do., 29s ; \ pen four-year-old steers, half fat, CO 13s (id : 1 pen steers, £."> 0s ; 1 pen steers, in fr.'.sh condition, £4 7s ; 1 pen do . £4 10s ; 1 pen two-year-old steers, £3 2s ; 1 pen 18-months steers, £2 ."is ; 1 pen yearlings, 31s ; 1 pen well-bred calves, 30s ; 1 pen IS-inontlis heifers, 33s ; empty cows, from £2 10s to £3 ; beef cows, from £3 15s to £5 10s. Sheep : About 900 were yarded, but the majority were ewes and lambs, for which there was not much demand. Mr Hodgson, of Tc Rore, had a Hue of splendid fourtooth wethers, a prime lot, which sold up to los ; a line of 300 ewes with lambs, from two-tooth to full-mouth, sold at 9s 3d ; 1 pen hoggets, 8s ; 2 pens good fat wethers, wcll-wooled, 15s ; 400 ewes and lambs are held at Ss.—(Olianpo Correspondent). HAWERA MARKETS. ThkEcmo.nt Farmers' Union (Limited), report under date Hawkisa, October Ist. —We held an unreserved clearing sale of dairy cows for Messrs Bremer Bros., Wavcrly, in our Oktdawa sale yards on Thursday, the 24th ult. Those being in good condition realised satisfactory prices, as high as £S .Is being reached. We quote : Dairy cows £4 2s (id to £S .Is. There was a good muster of cattle at Stratford last Friday and though of saleable classes bidding was very slow at first, though improved as we went on and at the close most lines changed hands. We quote :2 to 3y< ar steers, £2 2s Od to £4 ; 12 to 20 months steers, £1 4s 6d to £2 ; mixed weaners, ](is 6d to £1 2s fid ; store cows, £2 to £2 10s ; dairy cows and heifers £3 tc £4 ; 12 to 20 months heifers, £1 5s to £1 12s. Our monthly horse fair was held on Saturday the 20th ult., when a large entry of horses was submitted. Bidding was slow and the attendance was.small owing to a wet day, but still a good number of horses changed bunds. We quote : Draughts. £l4 to £2O 10<s ; harness horses £.-> to £l3 2s (ill ; hacks, £2 7s (id to £lO ss. We held a clearing sale for Mrs Ellen Carroll on her farm, Okinawa, on Monday, the 2Sth ult. The cows sold very well, the average being £6 (is, and all other stock and sundries sold well. We quote : dairy cows £4 2s (id to £8 7s (id ; heifers, £2 15s to £4 17s (id ; yearlings, £1 3s to £1 10s. On Tuesday, the 20th ult. we held another large clearing sale in the Glover Road Yards. Hawcra, on account of Mr .1. Forbes Normandy. All the cows were in backward condition though they realised good values, as well as everything else that was offered. We quote : Dai'y cows, £3 to £6 ss; run cows, £2 10s to £2 19s 61; 12 to IS wonths heifers, £1 4- to £1 17s; horses, £2 5s to £l4 15s. Very rough weather •{rested ns on Wednesday, the 30th ult. on the occasion of our Hawcra stock silo and had the effect of diminishing our entry of cattle and keeping away buyers. Some very good lines of beef came forward, but they were practically neglected owing to lack of purchases. We quote : 2 to 3 year steers, £2 10s to £3 Kis ; 1 to 2 year steers, £1 7s Od to £2 •Is ; yearlings, mixed, £1 5s (id to £1 9s ; fat cows, £3 l.'ij to £4 4s ; dairy cows and heifers, £1 10sto£l 12s (id ; year heifers, £1 10s to £1 15s. FROZEN MEAT. Tin: Ntw Zealand Loan & Mercantile Aiskxoy Company report :—London, August 14th, 1890 : During the past wick the demand for frozen meat has been extremely limited, and quotations in most instances ;iro weaker. The supply of prime New Zealand mutton is not heavy, and quotations have born maintained, but average and inferior descriptions are worth about >',il per lb less money. The demand for Austialian mutton has been cheeked by the damaged New Zealand now being marketed, and values are about Jd per 11) weaker. The enquiry for frozen lamb has shown a marked falling off, and it has been impossible to effect clearances from day to day. Today's prices show a fall of fully : 'jd p 3 r lb on those given in our last report. The value of American beef has again fallen, and the demand for frozen has been slow.
