OHAUPO.
Erratum.—ln Messrs McNieol and Co.'s sale report on Thursday's issue, there is an error in the price quoted for a pen of yearling steo:s in pood condition. I wrote 40s, but it is printed 20s, which makes a great difference. School Committee. —On Monday evening last a meeting of the Ohaup'o School Committee was held. The following accounts were passed for payment : —A. Jones, £1 6s ; VV. Cowley, £1 Is ; J. Corlioy, .CI -Js.—A letter was received from the Board confirming the appointment of Mr Colhoun, as head teacher, and also requesting particulars re library books and science apparatus. The Inspector's report of the last examination was considered highly satisfactory. Bachelors' Bali-.—The young men of Ohaupo gave a ball on Wednesday evening in the Public Hall. The weather was what you would call " down right nasty," with plenty of mud, but, notwithstanding those drawbacks-, the ball was a decided success, over one hundred guests attended. The following districts were represented : Kihikihi, Te Awanuitu, Alexandra, Tuhikaramea, Cambridge and Ngaruawahia. Old heads wonder why people should come such long distinces in such bad weather for the sake of a dance, but many of those old fogies did foolish things themselves when they were youug. My advice is : " Enjoy your courting days young people, for you will find them the happiest days of your life." The hall was nicely decorated, not too profusley. The music was excellent, Miss Archer prodded at the piano (a good instrument) and many favourable comments were made upon her playing. One or two soups were given during the evening. Refreshments were handed round at intervals, which seemed to be far more enjoyable than i regular sit down supper. There were plenty ot well dressed good looking young girls, and I can say the same of the young men. In the early days, one did not sec so many white shirts and black coats at a ball as 3'ou do now, Lut I reckon we were just as good looking for all tiiat. Well,, the dancing was kept up till .'i o'clock in the morning, when the guests returned home, having spent a most enjoyable evening. —(Own Correspoddent).
