SUGAR BEET.
The Waikato Farmers' Club have wisely decided to offer prizes for sugar beet grown iu the Counties of Waikato, YVaipa, and Piako—three good prizes iu each County. The roots must be grown iu plots of not less than a quarter of an acre, and the judging will lie done by gentlemen appointed by the Club in the month of May next. To insure uniformity, the seed must be purchase from Mr G. J. Neal, of Cambridge, the price of it being Is per lb. The prizes will be awarded according to quantity and quality. We understand a gentleman has offered to take such quantities of the roots as may be for sale at a price? similar to that mentioned by Messrs Douglas and Lewenberg. This will give farmers an opportunity of learning what return the sugar beet will give them. The Club will present each purchaser of seed with a pamphlet on the best and most approved method of its cultivation.
