4, The Waikato Aiigus Office, Wednesday. MR W. J. HUNTER'S STOCK SALE. At Mr \V. J. Hunter's s,ik on Tuesday at Ohaupo, close on 400 head of cattle were yarded. The majority of the stool; offered consisted of dairy cows and halfgrown cattle, with very few calves. On the whole, the quality of the stock was from fair to middling. There was a big market of dairy cows, the biggest I have ever seen of that class, over eighty. Some were of a good class and in fair condition, but many were poor and backward. Bidding was fairly brisk, and anything good sold at tair prices. Mr Rosborough had a couple of pens of nice, well-bred sprim/ing heifers (in calf to a pedigree bull) which sold very well ; in fact very few of the dairy eows were passed. There were only a few pens of grown steers, which sold up to £(i, but there was a large number of IS-months to two-year-old steers, for which there was a moderate demand. Empty cows were put poorly represented. Seven yonng bulls sold at fair prices. There was only a moderate demand for beef. The tone of the market was brisk at the commencement of the sale, but dragged a bit towards the end. The following are the prices :—Dairy cows : 1 cow, £4 ; I do., £5 12s b'd ; 1 do., £3 7s lid ; I do., £2 10s ; 1 do., £5 ; 1 do., £4 17s Gd ; 1 do., £5 ; 1 do., £2 5s ; 1 do., £2 10j ; S well-bred springing heifers sold in one lot at £4 12s Gd ; a smaller lot at £4 ; 1 do., £2 5s ; 3 do., £3 5s ; I young cow, £4 10s ; 1 do., £3 5s ; 1 do., £5 2s (id ; 1 do., £5 15s. Sheep : About 300 were yarded. The tone of the market was dull, very few selling under the hammer. However, there was one exception. Mr Kusabs bought a small pen of about 20 lougwool hoggets. They were really a prime lot and in grand condition, got by one of Bosanko's rams, and were bought for breeding purposes ; the price paid was 15s 6d. Most of the others were sold privately.
