The public fell over The Skipper's victory in the Metropolitan Handicap. Not mi minded of the Hawkesbury meetings they had never looked his way. There was a hostile demonstration on his return to the saddling paddock, and sonc feeling was displayed later on over Coil's performance in the New Stikes. The Auckland owned colt Sab-etjche, who finished next to Charge and C-jil for the Derby, improved upon that performance by winn'ng tlvi Maiden S'ake-j in capital style. Another New Z-alan'cr to distinguish himse f was Chris, who woo the Steeplechase in goo I style. The following was the result of This Met'ropoutas Stakes. Vigilance,Survivi r, and Birinji were the first to show pist the stand in that order, "here was little change till the back of the course was reached, when Hopscotch moved forward, and at the sheds took command, with Rockarock, Survivor, The Skipper, and Nada after him. Rer-potise made a forward movement at the turn, and led the way in'o the straight, with Rockarock, The Skipper, and True Blue in attendance. At the distance The Skipper came fast along the rails, and despite a dash of great gameness on the part of True Blue, The Skipper wore his opponent down, and Avon by a neck.
