TE AWAMUTU.

Town Boaud Eucctjon.-- Judging from the nominations received bv the Returning OHieor, the coming general election of Commissioners, which is to take place on Wednesday week, the Kith in*t., is going' to be. a very keenly contested one. There are live vacancies to be filled, anil the nominations exceed that number by no less than three. All tin old Commissioners have again been nominated, viz. : Messrs Aider, Gibson, North, Lynch, Mid J. Mandeno (Chairman). The three new candidates who are brought forward arc Messrs J. R. Teasdale,",!. I'. Andrew, and S. Matthews. It is very evident in the opinion of some of die ratepayer* that some new blood is necessary, and it is very gratifying to sec 111-it so much interest is being taken in our local affairs. I should advise tiiose persons in tho Town District who wish to oxcro'so their voles at the election to interview the Town Clerk and si'O that their names appear on the roll of ratepayers. Dkainack District. —Mr 11. Roche, who was appointed by the D aid to classify the different properties, tells me that he is making good progress with the work. He has not had a very enviable job, it being most difficult to determine under what head to classify some of those wdiose land is most indirectly benefited. They say that they have quite enough taxes to pay without being run into any uioii'. Should the picscut broken weather continue it will be almost impossible for him to have his report in by the 11th hist., as requested by the Hoard.—(Own Correspondent).
