AUCKLAND MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Company (Lisiited) report: —Auckland Wool Stores:, August 26 : We had a large catalogue on Tuesday. Hides, especially cow, show an advance on late quotations. Sheepskins easier. Quotations are :—Hides : Prime stout ox, 5d to 6Jd ; heavy stout. 4d to 4fd ; light and medium, 2Jd to 3|d ; cow, all in i>ood condition, sold from 2Jd to 3Jd ; sloppy, 2Ad ; kip, 2d to 2Jd ; calt, 3d to 4i«t. Sheepskins: Equal to 5d to sid lb. Wool : In good demand. We sold a few oddments at late rates. Bones : £3 to £3 5s ton. Bones, tail hair, etc. In good demand. Messrs A. Bockland & Son's Weekly Report.—At the Haymarket during the past week meadow hay brought "2s 3d and 2s 6d : oaten sheaves 2s 6d to 35.3 d ; bonedust, 6s; guano, 3s. Gd cwt'"; I 'chaff, £3 10s ; pressed hay, £3 10s ; carrots. £1 3s to £1 4s ; potatoes, £3 2s Gd to £4 2s 6d ton. Chaff at Auckland Station. £3 ton ; cocksfoot, 6s Gd ; oats, 2s 2d to 2s 8d ; maize, 2s 9d; wheat, 3s 9d bushel. On Saturday horse stock yarded numerously, sold freely. Medium to heavy draught ranged from £ls to £23; active light harness, £S to £l2 each. On Tnesday hides in full supply were without alteration in values. Stout ox varied from Id to sjd; light ox, 2Jd to 3gd ; cow hides, 2kl to 3.'d ; calfskins, 2.kl to 3Jd lb : tallow, lis 3d to 16s 3d cwt; rough fat, 1-Jd lb. Skins in increased number fully kept previous quotations, fresh skins mostly from 3s lOd to 5s Gd, but others as high as 7-s 2d ; dry country skins, is 7d to 5s each ; fleece wool, 6id ; pieces, 4 , ! d to 5d lb. At the cattle fair held on Wednesday, 350 head of cattle were yarded of all descriptions. A moderate attendance, but good values throughout. Three to four years old steers in moderate condition brought from £4 5s to £5 12s Gd ; well-bred yearling steers, £2 2s • dry cows from £1 to £3 each. At Remuera on Thursday, dairy cattle in full number met a better inquiry than for several weeks ; prices for those near calving were from £5 to £7 each ; young and fat calves in full number were without alteration in values. Fat cattle in usual number, 200 sold, were at lower values than last week ; prices for steers were from 17s to IDs the 1001 b, cows at 10s to 17s. Sheep yarded numerously, fully kept last week's values ; wethers ranged from 10s 9d to 19s 9d ; ewes. 10s 3d to 14s 9d each, 1600 sold. Lambs for the first time this season yarded iu number, 115 sold, brought from 4s G 1 to 14s 9d each. Pigs, yarded in limited number, maintained the improved quotation of last week. Messrs Hunter and Nolan s Weekly Report.—Grain, horsefeed, seeds : The supply has been ample and the demand steady. We quote : Maize on wharf, 2s 7d per bushel ; ex store, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; feed oats, 2s Id ; seed oats, 2s 9d ; bran, £4 per ton ; oaten chaff, £3 to £4 per ton ; carrots at station, £1 to £1 Is petton. Horses : Large numbers have been brought forward and found purchasers at tully the previous week's values. The entries for disposal by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday were nuriiei'ous, and competition was brisk throughout. We quote : Heavy draught, £ls to £3l ; medium draught, £l2 to £l6 10s ; light harness,£s to £9 15s ; hacks, £3 los to £2O ; draught colts,£ls 15s to £26 10s. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, bones : Quite average quantities were disposed of at the Durham Yards on Tuesday. Stout ox were still in unsatisfied demand, and there was a slight advance in the value ot lighter hides. We quote : Store ox hides. 4d to Sid lb; medium, 3Jd to 3?d; light, 2gd"to 3sd; stag, Ud to 2d ; calfskins, 3d to 3Jd ; bones, L> ton; tallow, 13s Gd to IGs cwt; for sheepskins prices were slightly in favour of the purchaser, longwool sold from Is 8d to Gs Gd each ; crossbred and country skins, 2s to 5s 4d; wool ill snw.ll packages, fleeces from Gd to 6 : ,'d lb. Cattle have been brought forward in sufficient numbers for requirements, met a .steady demand, and sold at prices showing little or no alteration in value. At Newmarket on Tuesday a good many were yarded and maintained their values. The shipborne bullocks were exceptionally good, but even then scarcely up to the localfed. Ox beef ranged from 18s to 20s 1001 b ; cow, 18s to 19s ; steers ranged from £6 10s to £lO 7s Gd ; cows ranged from £3 15s to £6 5s ; springers, £3 5s to £6 7s 6d ; dry cows, £1 15s to £2 12s Bd ; 23-year-old steers, £4 3s to £4.10s ; calves," 25s to 27s 6d. Sheep : There was a good muster, but as a rule the quality was not up to that of previous week." There was little or no alteration in values. Wethers sold at from Pis 9.1 to 17s 3d ; ewes, 10s Oil to Its ; mixed sexes, 13s 3d to 15s ; hoggets, 9s to 10s 9d Figs : A fair number ot well-bred porkers sold from 12s to 27s Gd each. WOOL SALES. Tut: New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., supplies the following report under date London, 16th July, 1896:—Wool: The fourth series of sales ot colonial wool for the current year, which commenced here on the 30th nit., is still in progress. The occasional weakness noted in the opening night has not become further accentuated 0 , and there is very little wool that is selling now at the lower rates than were current at the close of the third series. Crossbred* of the liner grades when in good condition are in keen demand, and prices have improved to the extent of id per lb. Medium and coarse qualities and lambs wool meet with steady sale at about May prices

but inferior sorts show no improvement. The attendance continues largo ami the tone of the room is exceptionally brisk, suggestive of a possibility that their is only needed a very slight impetus to trade in general to send the price of the raw material up to a higher level.
