PATERANGI.
Accident. —A painful accident happened on Thursday last at Mr Partington’s mill to Hubert Hodgson, a son of Mr Isaac Hodgson, of Te Rore, It appears that young Hodgson was engaged in hoisting some sacks by means of a pulley, using the shafting of some of the machinery as the power. when by some means both his hands were caught between the rope and the shaft and frightfully cut. Luckily the belt flew off when the pressure on it became too strong, otherwise the young man’s arms would have been wound around the shaft and brokenAs it was, some of the muscles were nearly cut through and the little finger of the left hand was cut or crashed off at the second joint. Dr. Pairman attended the sufferer, and under his skilful treatment the patient is progressing as well as can be expected. Threshing. —Threshing operations have been carried on in this district during the last two weeks, but owing to the continual wet weather progress is very slow. A whole week was spent on one farm in threshing and chaffing about 20 acres of grain. _ The largest yield of wheat thua far is Mr A. J. Scott’s, 29 bushels to the acre. Forty bushels of oats to the acre were the result on one farm. The Waikato Argus.—We wish the proprietor of The Argus all manner of success, and, no matter what the title is, his paper will always be welcome and as much appreciated as ever. —(Own Correspondent).
