AUCKLAND NEWS.
(BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT). Auckland, Last Night. The threatening weather, accompanied by light ram, reached a climax last night when a deluge was experienced. The ram came down about two o'clock, and for a little time fell in torrents. .Mr Cheesman, of the Museum, estimates that within a very small space of time the rainfall was slightly under one inch, while in the suburbs it was even greater. At Mount Eden something over an inch fell, and considerable damage was done by tiie flooding of cellars and shops. The mail steamer, Monovvai, passed Russell at two o'clock, and is expected here r.t II o'clock to-miiht. She leaves again tomorrow, and will convey a number of notables to London, via America. Among those booked are : Dr. and Mrs Haines, Miss Isaacs, Mr and Mrs Moss Davis, and two daughters, Archbishop Redwood, Dr. Vogelsang (German Mining Fxpert), ami Major General Hogg.
