Business shoot

The Waimarino Smallbore Rifle Club is now preparing for the Interbusiness Trophy Competition for 1989.

This has proved highly successful and very entertaining for all who have taken part in previous years. The event has produced a friendly competitive spirit amongst businesses and organisations. It has seen those who have never handled a firearm before produce a reasonable score for 'giving it a go'. An invitation is extended to all commercial, local or Government enterprises within the Waimarino area, including Waiouru, to enter teams in this competition. A team consists of four people. Women shooters compete equally with men, so teams may be mixed sex - one of the highest scoring men in 1987 was included in a team with three women and that team was placed fifth - he had

obviously received plenty of encouragement! The Club provides a trophy to be presented each year to the winning team and after engraving it is placed on display. As in previous years, every team will receive a 'Golden Kiwi' ticket so that there are good odds on winning a prize somehow! This year's competition will begin on Saturday March 11 at 9 am. The Club will be ordering a sunny day as it is hoped to have a barbecue available for those who wish to

bring along somethinj to cook for lunch. It will be held at the Club Range in the 'Produce Shed' at the Raetihi Showgrounds. The range is 20 yards shooting at a standard smallbore rifle cardboard target consisting of 10 black markers. No previous experience with firearms is necessary as on-site coaching will be provided by the Club members and the Club will provide all equipment necessary, including a left-hand rifle available for those awkward shooters! An enterprise may enter more than one team, but the name of the business must feature in each team's title, e.g. Winstones Electricians. No primary school child will be accepted. Teams must not include mem-

bers of the Waimarino Smallbore Rifle Club. The cost is $6.00 per shooter or $24.00 per team. Each team will need to select a Captain, for contacting by the Club. The Club suggests shooters wear a heavy jacket or a bulky jersey and that women shooters wear slacks rather than a dress. No alcohol will be permitted during the competition and the Club reserves the right to refuse entry to any person suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When all teams have completed their cards and final scores known, there will be a function at a place to be advised at which trophies will be presented. Club contacts for registration are: Bob McGinniss, phone 58553; Ken Summerhays, phone 54-104; Lynette Maru, phone 54-670.
