Ruatiti survey shows upgrade wanted
Most Ruatiti holiday campers would like more facilities at the domain but are prepared to pay for them. A survey of campers this year, conducted by Waimarino Acclimati-
sation Society representative Harry Brown, showed 22 thought facilities were inadequate and 19 thought they were adequate. Two people suggested a public shelter should be built, 12 suggested flush toilets,
and 14 suggested tap water. Other suggestions were for more tables, more rubbish bins, firewood, more toilets and cooking facilities. Nine people said they would not wish to pay if extra facilities
were provided while 31 said they would pay. Questioned about allowing dogs, 13 said yes, 16 said no and 14 said yes but leashed. The survey was conducted between December 26 and January 3.
Results of the survey were given to the Waimarino District Council at their meeting last week, where Mayor Workman said the response "flies in the face" of the Department of Conservation's view that the domain facilities should remain as they are. The survey will be discussed by the Ruatiti Domain Committee at their next meeting.
