Buy NZ made

The "Buy New Zealand Made" campaign is already shaping up to be a sustained and effective promotion, says campaign manager, Mr Ernie Newman.

Since the "Buy New Zealand Made" campaign was publicly announced late last year, the only thing Mr Newman has found more overwhelming than his workload has been the response. "Virtually everyone we've talked with about the campaign has been positive", says Mr Newman. "The usual response is that it's a great idea at the right time. The next response is how can we help, and what can we do because we want to be part of it." "Top manufacturing companies have given us a tremendously enthusiastic response and a great deal of money."

Already more than $1 million has been pledged by New Zealand's companies. Printing and packaging firm Printpac-UEB has been involved from the beginning and its financial and management support has played a major part in getting the project off the ground. Printpac-UEB has been joined by a roll call of New Zealand's top companies: ACI Glass, Bonds, Cadbury Schweppes Hudson, Caxton, Dominion Breweries, Durilop, Fisher & Paykel, Fletcher Woodpanels, Goodyear, Hardie Building Products, Lane Walker Rudkin, New

Zealand Sugar, NZFP Pulp and Paper, Rothmans, Unilever, Watties Foods, Watties Frozen Foods and Winstone Wallboards. And it's not just manufacturers who are supporting it. Both the Government and the Opposition have endorsed "Buy New Zealand Made." With this wide-rang-ing support, the official launch at Government House in Wellington signalled the start of a high-pro-file campaign. Television viewers were the first to be made aware of it on November 30 when the first screening of the "Buy New Zealand Made" commercial began an intensive television campaign. Consumers will gradually become familiar with "Buy New Zealand Made" when they go shopping. The campaign logo has been used for specially designed labels and swing tags to go on locally-made products, although campaign manager Ernie Newman admits he was a bit nonplussed when he got his first order - for 500,000! Other manufacturers have already incorporated the "Buy New Zealand Made" logo into their own packaging and merchandising. _ . Turnpage4
