Awarded for her help
"I don't think I should get this becausc I love doing these things," says Raetihi's Nancy Winter about her Civic Award for her outstanding community service. Nancy was lured to the December meeting of the Waimarino District Council "to discuss the Raetihi pool", by the mayor Garrick Workman. Once there she was presented with the award, symbolized by a silver candelabra. The candelabra was originally presented to Ruby Parker by the Raetihi Borough on her 100th birthday. The Parker family gave the candelabra back to the council after Mrs Parker died. Among the community activitics Nancy Winter is well-known for are her swimming and tennis coaching, Crippled Children Society work, St Mary's Anglican Church Sunday school, helping senior citizens and PTA work. "I must thank my husband Rex for being so co-operative about me doing all these things," said Nancy.
