1,000,000 visitors!
Tina Claridge, her mother and their friend drove up to the Waiouru Army Museum from Wanganui last Wednesday, joking all the way about winning a free trip to Australia.
When the three walked up to the counter to buy their tickets a battery of Camera flash guns popped as Tina received the one millionth ticket to the museum. The Queen Elizabeth H Army Memorial Museum was ten years old last October and as part of the celebrations those responsible for the "Fossil Factory" (the name given by Army soldiers) decided to give away a trip for two to Sydney, with $700 spending money, to the one millionth
person to walk through the door. While Tina had visited the museum before, her mother Allwyn and family friend Angelina Gates had not. They were the 999,999th and one million and first visitors, and received a commemorative plaque, made soon after the museum was built. After posing several times for the cameras and showing obvious signs of delight, the three were finally given a chance to look round the museum.
