Get a tan all year round in sunny Raetihi!

For Waimarino sun worshippers who don't want to have to do all their tanning on one day, Raetihi now has a tanning clinic. Images hairstylists recently installed a new, West German, 'Sunal' sun bed for their customers. The sun bed service offers a way to prepare yourself for the out-

doors and a safer and easier way to get a tan. Users start a tanning programme with 20 to 40 minute sessions, depending on skin type, to build up a tan. The sunbed lamps put out mostly UVA rays with less UVB light. Current research shows that, while UVA can still burn, UVB is more dangerous. Sun-

light has a much higher proportion of UVB light than tanning equipment. Dermatologists continue to say that with a tan comes an increased risk of ski cancer, premature ageing and skin irritations but agree that using common sense and following some basic guidelines can minimize the

negative effect of tanning and maximize ihe positive effects. Pretanning on a sun bed before going on holiday can protect people from a more dangerous sunburn. However, for those people with fair skin who don't tan in the sun should not use a sun bed either, say dermatologists.
