Ohakune base for disabled

Turoa skier Paul Speight is planning to establish a permanent headquarters for the disabled in Ohakune. Mr Speight, who is a paraplegic skier, is moving to Ohakune permanently where he plans to establish the base as well as build a ski lodge. He left his job with Dalgety Livestock in Auckland to make the move. The lodge will be for accommodating the able bodied as well as the disabled, in similar fashion to Mr Speight's tour company - Open Road Tours. Mr Speight is all for integrating the disabled into society, suggesting disabled people join sports clubs and organisations rather than forming their own.
