Spectacular vistas from chair

The high point, literally, for many people visiting the Ruapehu Region is a visit to Mt Ruapehu.

Following last years successful introduction Ruapehu Alpine Lifts have decided to open their chairlifts for summer use from December 26 to January 31. Visitors can enjoy two chairlift rides to the Knoll Ridge Cafe, 2000 meters above sea

level. Lunch is available and the views are spectacular. For those more adventurous a walk to the snowline or even the Crater Lake is possible but check with Department of Conservation Head Quarters in Whakapapa Village be-

fore setting off. The Summer Alpine Experience is weather dependant. Reports are available on local radio stations or by phoning Mt Ruapehu (081223) 833 or 738. The cost is only $10 for adults and $5 for children with a family pass available for $25. Don't forget your sunglasses and a warm jacket!
