Scheme objections disallowed

Objections to two Waimarino District scheme changes were heard, and disallowed, at a special full council meeting recently.

The changes are 88/1 which involves the proposed Rangataua Community Zone, and 88/2 which involves changes to the rural zones of the district. The first objections heard were from R V Hoadley, who wanted the Rangataua zone extended, the purpose of the zone rewritten for more flexibility, the deletion o f "horticultural uses" and design restrictions as well as several other amendments. The council heard that the zone was concentrated to make it economically viable and wasn't intended to allow the subdivision of larger blocks, which Mr Hoadley referred to. His objections were disallowed because "zone detail will b e changed at the forthcoming review and the objector may find the zone more acceptable accordingly". Mr R J Body's objection to 88/1 was

then heard and also disallowed on the grounds the system was in the best interests of the majority of ratepayers. He objected to the whole proposal as well

as the installation o f the sewerage system. The council heard that Mr Body wanted to be heard by council but he wasn't present at the meeting. The last objection to 88/1 was from the Ministry of Transport and concerned the effect of the change on State Highway 49.

The reason for disallowing the M o T objection was that the effect would be minimal. However the council acknowledged that the present alignment o f the Rangataua intersections onto State Highway 4 9 should be improved Turnpage 2

Objections disallowed

From page 1 and that it would consider the matter at the appropriate time. Rural Scheme change The Ministry o f Forestry objected to the rural scheme changes because of its concern at the proposal's restriction of forestry in the rural A1 sub-zone. Town planner Ted Fox told the meeting he felt there was no reason for the restriction referred to because the market would control the establishment of forests on A1 rural land. Cr Griffiths said in the present farming climate forestry could encroach.on some farm land. The objection was disallowed because the council believed "the

effect of forestry on high quality rural land could be detrimental." However, the matter would be reconsidered at the up coming scheme review. Objector A H Allen was concerned at the possible confusion between the words "forestry" and

"woodlots". Council disallowed the objection, but said the whole question 0 f forestry would be reconsidered at the next review. Because of their nature the remaining objections will be addressed at the next review.
