New owners also farmers
Margaret Berry says she had often looked at the Ohakune book shop and thought it was the business she would like to buy. She and her husband Peter have recently sold a large part of their goat farm and decided they wanted to get into retailing for a new way of life.
The business will be mostly a family one, they say, with both Peter and Margaret working in the shop, though Mr Berry will continue to spend time on the farm. "I don't know whether to pray for snow next winter for a good ski season for the shop or for a mild
winter for the farm," said Peter. They both said the welcome from Ohakune people has been tremendous and that their customers have been very tolerant and honest. "There seems to be a bit to leam in being a retailer," said Mr Berry.
